Doghouse hangs out in the same British Zom-Com genre as Shawn of the Dead, but does it in a much different way. I had this movie literally shoved in my face, had my eyelids forced open, and was threatened with all manner of torture until I sat down to give it my full attention. So give it my attention I did. And I laughed. At times, I laughed almost hard enough that I cried.
Six friends take off on an adventure to celebrate their friends divorce and cheer him up. They arrive in a small town that has been taken over by virus-infected, man-hating cannibals (all female zombie cast) who quickly turn their lives into a living (or not?) hell.
The effects were good, with vicious blood splatter everywhere. The comedy was the star of the show, the zombies being semi-intelligent and able to use weapons lended itself well to the film. The boys get themselves into sticky situations and come up with some even stickier solutions.
Angry feminists beware, you probably won’t enjoy the misogynistic and stereotypical portrayal of the women in the film. Everyone else, laugh it up, it’s good for your health.
